Christmas around the world

Today we have to make either a Christmas around the world or Christmas with the family. I decided to choose Christmas around the world so I can find about the different countries and how they have Christmas. If we choose Christmas around the world we have to research about 3 different countries.

In canada, most Canadians open up their gifts on Christmas Eve, or pick 1 present and open that present and leave the others for Christmas Day. People send Christmas cards to family and friends in Canada. Canadians like to decorate there houses with christmas trees, lights and Christmas decorations. If you Go to someone's house and they are Canadian you might see stockings by the fireplace.

The main meal in Canada for Christmas is turkey with vegetables, there popular desserts in Canada for Christmas are mincemeat tarts they are like mince Christmas pies, if it's snowing in Canada most people like to go skiing.

My 2nd choice is Egypt.
In Eygpt about 15% of people are Christians, Eygpt is the only part of the population who celebrate Christmas as a religious festival. In Eygpt they don't celebrate Christmas on the 25th but they do on the 7th I know it's late after Christmas for New Zealand but it's the way they celebrate Christmas. Even though most Egyptians aren't Christians, they still celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday.


My 3rd choice is Germany

A big part in Germany is advent. Several different advent calendars in different German homes. Christmas trees are important in Germany, they were first made in Germany in the late Middle Ages. If there are young children in the house, the mother in the house secretly decorate the Christmas tree. Christmas Eve is the main day when family's exchange there presents.

Summer learning journey

Hi Emma, I am Haylee today we signed up for the summer learning journey. Everyone in my class had to sign up even if we are not going to have time do it. The summer learning journey is a program to keep you learning so your reading does not go down over the holidays.

Something that sounds interesting in the summer learning journey is the Shakespeare one with the arts and entertainment, I like things about arts and it's very interesting. The art is something that makes me want to do it but I might not get enough time to do it. I like the experiments and gadgets cause I like to do experiments because i think they are interesting.

For the summer learning journey I might not to do this because I will be busy these holidays but I might try to aim to do at least 1-5 blog posts these holidays. I hope to achieve my goal and I might even get to do more. I hope to get a prize but it does not have to be a big prize.

Playing to win novel.

Hey bloggers, Today I have been reading this novel. Tz have all been put in a group there is 4 books and 4 groups. My friend and I are both in the same group we are in the group playing to win. The other books names are babe the sheep pig, I am malala and fantastic mr fox.

Descripction so far

Denny Had to move school because of his mums job, The first day denny brought his car to school he just parked in a car park and the spot he parked in Todds spot and then from then Todd just keeps annoying Denny everyday and all day. Todd and Denny both like Alice but Todd is always hanging with Alice. 

Prediction about what will happen. 

I think Todd and Denny will end up having a fight and Denny will get with Alice.

The game I'm doing was not very well as each time we had to pack up I would have to start all over again. Which was not fun cause I would have to add all the detail again.

Orana Park Trip

On Monday we went to Orana Park, The bus we went with 1 other class that was Bh. Well we were waiting for the bus we had a little morning tea. The bus we went on he was late so we were running late. When we got there there was someone who came to introduce herself to us after she did  that we went to this place near water. Then we got into groups we were already in groups as it was on our sticker that we had. It our name on it. Well we were going to a place to introduce herself we saw the Meerkats first as we were going. I was exited to feed the giraffes as I love giraffes as they are tall like me.


After they introduced there self i was in group 1 with miss birtch and with my friends Shanarnia, Paige and Rarotonga. The first things we sore were spider tail monkeys. we saw alot of things.

I really liked seeing the zebras, Keas, and giraffes. I was scared the giraffes were going to eat my hand instead of the tree branch.

P.E Blog post

Hey Welcome, today we are in P.E So far we have had 1 group teach us how to play a game the team name was French fries they Taught us how to play bench ball in the first hurumanu for P.E Mr Goodfellow taught us how to play bench ball but they just refreshed it in our brain.

For the warm ups we did were 40 star jumps, 20 high knees and then we did had to do 20 laps but then we did 10 as it was quite hard as we still had to play the game. Before we played the actual  games we played sneak up granny. That was fun I was close to getting to be the granny. After we did sneak up granny we played a small game of Bench Ball it was with year 7 Tz vs year 7 Bh then the year 8 Tz vs year 8 Bh. 

For the year 7s that was the group I was in as I am year 7 Tz won our game. I don't know who won for the year 8. Anyway after we did a small game of bench ball we then did a big game of bench ball it was Year 7 vs Year 8 But the year 7 had Miss Simpson. The Year 8's won.

Before we did the game for the last 1 week we were doing some maths it was how we had to paint the whole football field and had to make the 4 pitches. We had to find out how much paint we will need and how much money we need to by the paint. There was 20 litres in 1 can. Each litre painted a 10 metre line It takes 3 hours to paint each pitch. The tasks we did were hard and easy when we found out a strategy it was easy but when I found it did not work it was harder for me.

TerraCycle DLO

Hi Bloggers, welcome back. Today I am working with Shalizeh for this CIP project. We are making a DLO about Terracycle. We are making it so that we do not waste felts, pens, pencils etc. When we donate a kg we get a $1 back.  We are trying to spread this by putting DLOs on the tvs around the school and blogs letters teachers talking about it in the staffroom. The whole year 7/8 will help us with doing this. I predict we will collect at least 15-20kgs it just depends. The money we get i think we should put it towards new stationery. Here is mine and Shalizeh's work.

Hurumanu Digitech

Hey Bloggers 

For the past few weeks we have been doing digital technology. We had to choose an issue, so I chose Environmental because there is lots of plastic in the ocean killing the sea animals. I choose this issue because I am an animal lover and I want the animals to survive and not to be extincted. 



  • There is water pollution in the water there is lots of plastic and the sea turtles are thinking that the plastic is jellyfish so they eat it and then die.

  • There is ocean trash which is killing the animals that is the same is the water pollution. 




  • Flooding is another problem there is lots of flooding a round the country.

HURUMANU PE

Hey Bloggers welcome back to my blog today we are in Hurumanu PE Today we have just done our warm up and practice our drills before we do our full game of Dodgeball.

My group has been working on making drills and warm ups for our game it is DODGEBALL. Our group had come up with drills and Warm ups the part that was hard was deciding on the Drills as it had to be about DODGEBALL.


I have been Sucessfully working with others by Helping and working with my team and all working on the project.

PE HURUMANU With Miss Simpson

Welcome back to my blog today we are in hurumanu PE we are with Miss Simpson. Today we are quite tired as we did the beep test. 

Why do you think we do fitness? I think we do fitness to keep us fit and we can try to beat our score.

Here are all my results for what we did:

Vertical Jump
    M1:2.1

Sit and Reach:

Sit Ups: 24

Grip Test: 22

Beep Test: 3.1

I think I need to work on my running as I did not pass level 5, I think I will practice running in my own time so I can beat my score.

I was working well with my group by recording down there scores.
For the beep test I was cheering on all the contestants that were still in the beep test after I gave up.  By cheering on all the girls in who were still in they probably did not get as far as they did. Tasharn made it to 7.8 which she beat her sister Tahnesha. All the girls when they past level 5 was kind of struggling but they still keep going, which was good.

What we did:
  • We Got into groups of 4 and had to decide On what part of manaakitanga we wanted to to do my group chose to do hospitality it was about a family who went to a restaurant and ordered some food when it was a day where everything was free and when they were leaving they left them some money.
What I learned:
  • In Art I learned about how to use Stop Motion and to download it to my drive it took a little long to figure it out, we then had to add our voices overtop of the stopmotion
What I enjoyed:
  • In hurumanu this term i enjoyed making clay models and getting to use something that I don't get to use everyday it is clay and an app called stop motion as i have never used it on a computer. 
What I found difficult:
  • The part I found difficult was making the clay stay but i ended up making the clay stay, we had to take the picture fast so now our stopmotion is way to fast for our script.
